I grew up in Ottawa, Canada, and did my first two degrees there in English Literature and Education. Since then I spent five years in Princeton, New Jersey, and then moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I completed my degree in Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). While at NSCAD I received the Centennial Scholarship in 1993 and the Endowment Fund Scholarship and the Robert Pope Foundation Scholarship in 1994.
Although I still live in Halifax, I have had the opportunity to live and travel for extended periods in Norway, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. These places and other places I have traveled form the subject matter of some of my work.
I like to paint whatever catches my eye – usually because of colour or pattern or interesting lighting. For that reason water or shiny things feature in a lot of my paintings. I also like to paint people because it is challenging. I have a lot of fun painting and my hope is that my paintings give pleasure in return.
